golden guernsey goat

Every now and again we have to move out of our comfort zone and try something a little different.

So this weekend we took a handful of goats to a local fayre and put them on display.  We took Toffee (pictured above), 3 kids and 1 nanny.  The goats were kept in an enclosure and people could feed them, stroke them, and every now and then we brought one out so the children could get “hands-on” and brush them.

All in all they were a big hit with adults and children alike.  The children loved that they could actually handle them, and the adults were all amazed by how gentle they were.

It was the first time I have ever tried anything like this and I was amazed to find that I was able to spend 4 hours talking to people about goats.  Lots of our visitors were interested to find out all about them, and lots of visitors were interested in goat products of various kinds.

The end verdict was that it was a huge success.  We will definitely be going back next year – hopefully with produce on display to sell by then as well.
